Leadership Prince William Seeks Applicants for Class of 2020, this Year with New Scholarship Program

Manassas, VA-  Leadership Prince William (LPW) is pleased to announce that they have received a grant from Potomac Health Foundation which enables them to offer up to five full or ten partial scholarships for their Signature Program Class of 2020. Those eligible for these scholarships will be people of color who live or work in one of the thirteen zipcodes serviced by Potomac Health Foundation. Scholarship recipients must also apply for and be accepted to Leadership Prince William’s Signature Program.

From their first class in 2008 to today, the strength of Leadership Prince William’s adult program has been rooted in participation representing all aspects of the greater Prince William community–various professions, industries, ages, demographics, neighborhoods, experiences and skills.  Their alumni run small businesses, work in the technology sector, the arts, education, health care, government, human services, public safety and more. In order to be eligible to participate in the Class of 2020, candidates for the Leadership Prince William Signature Program must have lived or worked in Prince William County, Manassas or Manassas Park for at least one year by September 1, 2019.

The Leadership Prince William Signature Program exposes emerging and established community leaders to the many facets of Prince William County and Greater Manassas, from History and Government to Health and Human Services. It can be a life-changing experience for many; allowing participants to look behind the scenes at how their community functions. At the same time, class members are discovering their own strengths and how their leadership may be needed in their workplace and beyond.

Says Leadership Prince William Executive Director Andrea Money, “Through this new scholarship program we are enabled to more actively pursue program participants and graduates who espouse diverse perspectives; crucial to ensuring that the leadership in the local business, government and not-for-profit communities accurately reflects and celebrates the racial and ethnic diversity of the people in the greater Prince William community. We have been a majority minority community since 2010.”

 Applicants for the scholarship funds must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • You are a person of color (May include the following: mixed race, African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latin American, etc.);
  • You live or work in the Potomac Health Foundation service area (represented by the following zip codes: 22125, 22079, 22191, 22026, 22135, 22554, 22556, 22134, 22172, 22025, 22193, 22192, 20112)

Selection for these scholarships is contingent upon selection as a member of the Leadership Prince William Class of 2020. Additional scholarship opportunities are available for those who do not meet these criteria.

Applications for both the Leadership Prince William Signature Program and the Scholarship for Persons of Color became available on January 31, 2019 and will close June 28, 2019. Applications are available online at leadershipprincewilliam.org. For more information on the program and scholarships, call Leadership Prince William at 571-765-7568.

Gourmet Guys Give Back: Local Business Leaders to Compete with their Home-Cooked Favorites

Manassas, VA- Come hungry! Leadership Prince William and the Prince William Chamber of Commerce will host their 3rd Annual Gourmet Guys Give Back event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, at Linton Hall School in Bristow, Virginia.  This family-friendly event is open to the public and will feature up to 20 local amateur chefs who will compete for People’s Choice and Judges’ Awards for their tastiest dishes. Tickets are available online at www.GourmetGuysGiveBack.com . Adult tickets are $25; children ages 6 to 13 are $10; children under 6 are free.

Guests will be able to sample all of the dishes—appetizers, soups, side dishes and entrees—and vote for their favorites to identify the Peoples’ Choice winners. Local professional chefs will select the Judges’ Award winners. Gourmet Guys Give Back also features children’s activities and face painting, raffle prizes, live music and – new this year – a bake sale to benefit BEACON for Adult Literacy. BEACON is a local not-for-profit organization focused on teaching non-native English speakers to read and comprehend English while also helping them to learn valuable jobs skills.

Mary Finnigan, Chairman of the Board for Leadership Prince William and Chief Operating Officer for the ministries of the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, encouraged families to attend. “Gourmet Guys Give Back has proven to be an excellent family-oriented event for Leadership Prince William. It truly has something for everyone and is definitely worth attending. The food is absolutely incredible. There is no need to be a member of either partner organization to participate!”

Another new facet of this year’s event: anyone can sponsor a pack of fifteen tickets to be given to the local police or fire and rescue department of their choice for just $300. The package is called “Give Back to the Good Guys” and can be purchased on the website, www.gourmetguysgiveback.com.

“As we move into our third year with this event, we hope to continue to build additional support from the community,” says Prince William Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Debbie Jones. “Many of the chefs are visible members of the community—elected officials, business leaders, even some not-for-profit executives—but at Gourmet Guys they lay it all on the line to compete for your votes: as the best amateur chef in our community.” She went on to note that the Chamber is pleased to be partnering with Leadership Prince William for another year.

For a full list of the participating “Gourmet Guys” and a schedule of events, visit www.GourmetGuysGiveBack.com.

Sponsors to date for Gourmet Guys Give Back include Employment Enterprises, Inc; Linton Hall School; The Benedictine Sisters of Virginia; ImagiNation Early Childhood Learning Center; Mike Garcia Construction; Iron Mountain Data Centers; What’s Up Prince William and FreshySites. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event should call Debbie Jones at 571-765-1877.

Proceeds from Gourmet Guys Give Back benefit the programs and activities of Leadership Prince William and the Prince William Chamber of Commerce. These community organizations nurture local leadership, support the business and not-for-profit communities, provide scholarships for educational activities and more.
