Volunteers Sought for Comcast Cares Day

For the fourth year in a row, Leadership Prince William and Comcast are partnering on a local community service project for the 17th Annual Comcast Cares Day. On Saturday, April 21, from 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., close to 300 volunteers are needed to carry out large-scale community beautification efforts in the Georgetown South subdivision in Manassas, Virginia. Volunteer registration is available online at www.leadershipprincewilliam.org. All volunteers are provided with a commemorative t-shirt and lunch, courtesy of Comcast. This event takes place rain or shine.

Georgetown South Community Manager, Meg Carroll, and her staff have committed time and resources to extensive prep work so that volunteers can achieve the maximum amount of results on event day.

Andrea Short, Executive Director for Leadership Prince William explained how Georgetown South was chosen for this year’s project: “Each year the members of our Adult Signature Program work in teams to propose various projects for Comcast Cares Day. Then we submit the proposals to Comcast for a final decision. The team that put together the Georgetown South project proposal had such a passion for the community that it really stood out. It wasn’t so much that they needed our help; it was the fact that this community has already come so far on their own. We get the chance to simply showcase their progress and help propel their efforts even further forward. The community at-large has a perception of Georgetown South as being riddled with crime and violence. But today that’s no longer the truth. So aside from the beautification and safety improvement projects we will be doing, the real work is in bringing attention to the great work that has already being done there. The Georgetown South community motto is, ‘The Community That Cares for it’s Own.’ On Comcast Cares Day, we come together and we all become that community caring for our own.”

On April 21 volunteers will complete several large projects that will benefit the 4,000+ residents of Georgetown South, over half of which are children.  Projects are available for volunteers ages 10 and above, and groups from local businesses, churches, scouting groups and even families are encouraged to participate.

Day’s Agenda:

ALL event volunteers must check in at the registration/check-in area at the Georgetown South Community Center (9444 Taney Road, Manassas, VA 20110).
