Middle School Students Raise Thousands of Dollars for Local Charities

Manassas, VA— On Friday, July 26 Leadership Prince William held a Commencement Ceremony for the 28 middle school students and 8 counselors (high school students) graduating from their Summer Youth Academy.

During the program, the students learned which of their two teams won the competition and fundraiser known as  Leadership Lemonade. The Red Team pulled in the most money, raising $1,427.85 for Bright Care Center (https://brightcarecenter.org/). The Blue Team came in second having raised $1,064.25 in support of CASA Child Intervention Services (http://casacis.org/).

Representatives from both organizations were presented with checks during the graduation ceremony.

The Red Team presented a check to several of the young women served by Bright Care Center during the Summer Youth Academy commencement ceremony on July 26 at Youth for Tomorrow. Leadership Prince William Board Chair Jacqueline Krick is front left in orange and white.

More about this program:

Leadership Lemonade is an entrepreneurial competition that encourages philanthropy and community awareness among the students. The exercise culminated on Wednesday, July 24 with two competing lemonade stands on the grounds of Youth for Tomorrow—home base for the two-week youth academy.  As part of their experience, the students had the opportunity to meet with representatives from seven Prince William/Greater Manassas area not-for-profit organizations. Using the information gathered during their meetings, the students were divided into two teams and asked to choose which organizations they would be raising money for. They chose the Bright Care Center and CASA.

Throughout the Leadership Prince William Summer Youth Academy participants had opportunities to enhance their team building, communication and leadership skills, beginning with a personalized Emergenetics behavioral assessment (similar to a DISC profile) and culminating in the planning and execution of Leadership Lemonade.
