Leadership Prince William Begins Recruiting for Class of 2021; This Year with More Scholarships than Ever

Manassas, VA-  Leadership Prince William (LPW) is pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, they have received a grant from Potomac Health Foundation which enables them to offer up to five full or ten partial scholarships for their Signature Program Class of 2021. Those eligible for these scholarships will be people of color who live or work in one of the thirteen zipcodes serviced by Potomac Health Foundation. Scholarship recipients must also apply for and be accepted to Leadership Prince William’s Signature Program.

Peace Home Lending is also sponsoring two (2) $1,000 scholarships for young professionals who have been accepted to the Signature Program.

From their first class in 2008 to today, the strength of Leadership Prince William’s adult program has been rooted in participation representing all aspects of the greater Prince William community–various professions, industries, demographics, neighborhoods, experiences and skills.  Their alumni run small businesses, work in the technology sector, the arts, education, health care, government, human services, public safety and more. In order to be eligible to participate in the Class of 2021, candidates for the Leadership Prince William Signature Program must have lived or worked in Prince William County, Manassas or Manassas Park for at least one year by September 1, 2020.

Says Leadership Prince William Executive Director Andrea Money, “Through these new scholarships we are enabled to more actively pursue program participants and graduates who espouse diverse perspectives; crucial to ensuring that the leadership in the local business, government and not-for-profit communities accurately reflects and celebrates the racial and ethnic diversity of the people in the greater Prince William community. We have been a majority minority community since 2010.”

Applicants for the Potomac Health Foundation-funded scholarships must additionally meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • You are a person of color (May include the following: mixed race, African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latin American, etc.);
  • You live or work in the Potomac Health Foundation service area (represented by the following zip codes: 22125, 22079, 22191, 22026, 22135, 22554, 22556, 22134, 22172, 22025, 22193, 22192, 20112)

The Leadership Prince William Signature Program exposes emerging and established community leaders to the many facets of Prince William County and Greater Manassas, from History and Government to Health and Human Services. It can be a life-changing experience for many; allowing participants to look behind the scenes at how their community functions. At the same time, class members are discovering their own strengths and how their leadership may be needed in their workplace and beyond.

Selection for these scholarships is contingent upon selection as a member of the Leadership Prince William Class of 2021. Additional scholarship opportunities may be available for those who do not meet these criteria.

Applications for both the Leadership Prince William Signature Program and the Scholarship for Leaders of Color became available on January 26, 2020 and will close June 26, 2020. Applications are available online at leadershipprincewilliam.org.
