Sheyna Burt, LPW Class of 2013

Founder, The Law Office of Sheyna Nicole Burt, PLC

Tell us a little about your law firm:

My firm focuses on the representation of community associations, charitable nonprofits, and families in Virginia and Washington, D.C. (Learn more Sheyna’s firm at burtlaw.co)

What’s new since you graduated from LPW?

Most recently, in November of 2018 I moved my office to 9306 Grant Avenue in Manassas. It’s a shared space with other lawyers, close to the courthouse, and absolutely charming. In April of this year, my family bought a beautiful home in Potomac Shores.

More generally, in the five years since graduation from LPW I’ve expanded my outreach into the community. The firm’s reputation for passionate advocacy and compassionate service is growing by leaps and bounds. I also volunteer on the boards of nine organizations: Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra, Hylton Performing Arts Center, Youth Orchestras of Prince William, Friday Morning Music Club, World Doctors Orchestra, Court Appointed Special Advocates – Children’s Intervention Services, Keep Prince William Beautiful, ACLU of Virginia, and Covenant Presbyterian Church.

What is your favorite LPW memory?

I smile every time I remember not being eaten by a bear at the opening retreat in the mountains.

How has Leadership Prince William helped you get to where you are today?

The professional progress I’ve made is directly attributable to LPW. One of my LPW classmates opened up her office suite to me, allowing me to move my practice out of my home. And the networking … the sincere friendships I’ve formed because of this program have been a powerful source of clients, service opportunities, and laughs.

What does leadership mean to you?

To me, leadership means helping others to identify and accomplish their goals. It means appreciating the strengths and talents of each member of the team and positioning them to succeed.

Any final thoughts?

Lean, Mean 2013 is the undisputed G.O.A.T.

No matter your background, if you are interested in your community and making it better while making yourself and your business more successful, then take the time to participate in Leadership Prince William. It will make a difference. You will make a difference.

I can’t imagine any leadership program having more of an impact on my life, both personally and professionally, than Leadership Prince William.

You’ll forge long-lasting friendships with your classmates and alumni – and you’ll learn about yourself along the way. You’ll be provided the opportunity to look critically at how you think and behave – and develop strategies that focus on your strengths to create stronger teams and to become a more effective, compassionate leader.

The program allows greater appreciation and understanding of all facets of the community. The program demonstrates how to lead change one person at a time, one group at a time, one community at a time.

I believe that Leadership Prince William has provided valuable information about the many different aspects of our entire community as well the opportunity to participate in discussions in which leaders share differing perspectives and proposed solutions to our challenges.
